Octa2Go Setup Instructions

While these controllers come with WLED preinstalled, you can download the firmware here if you ever need to reinstall:

  1. Configure the Correct Voltage
Your lights should match the DC voltage output of your power supply. The Octa2Go supports 5V, 12V or 24V pixels.

It is CRITICAL that you select the proper voltage using this jumper. An incorrect setting could damage your Octa2Go and/or your LEDs.

  2. Connect your Power Supply
Carefully connect the voltage and ground lines from your DC power supply to the power connector (P1). Take care to ensure the polarity is correct. The Voltage (V+) should be plugged into the 5V-24V side and Ground (V-) should be screwed into the GND side.  The P1 connector powers the ESP32, Expansion header, and ports 1-4 and the voltage MUST match the LEDs attached to ports 1-4!

Then, you can connect either the same, or different power supply to connector P2. The second power supply will only power ports 5-8 and can be a different voltage than ports 1-4. There is no jumper setting for this connector, but its voltage MUST match the LEDs on ports 5-8!

If you see a red LED lit on the controller above P1, you have connected the DC power on P1 backwards. IMMEDIATELY unplug power and wait for the red LED to go out. Then connect the DC power cable correctly and try again.

    * Make sure to note that the reverse-protection circuit only safeguards the controller and not any attached LEDs. Keep in mind that if polarity is reversed, any connected LEDs may still be damaged. After connecting the DC power cable, ALWAYS try to power on the controller without any pixels first to ensure proper polarity.

(nb: There is no reverse voltage detection for P2)

As soon as you power on your power supply, you will see a separate red LED light on the ESP32 and the board will begin to boot WLED.

  3. Connect your LEDs

Remove the green male Phoenix connectors from the output ports.
Insert the wires from your LED string into one of the connectors, carefully ensuring that your Voltage (V), Data (D) and Ground (G) wires match the diagram above.

  4. Loading WLED for the first time
    1. Browse for wireless networks using your WIFI-enabled computer or smartphone. Look for an SSID called "WLED-AP-Octa2Go"

Connect to that network. If prompted, the password is wled1234

    2. A browser should pop up showing the WLED intro screen. If not, browse manually to http://4.3.2.1

If you are eager to get started, you can configure lights by simply clicking on the "To the Controls!" button, but we recommend connecting the device to your local LAN so that you can set an IP and/or hostname so that you can easily control the lights later. Click on "WIFI Settings" to do this.

Make sure you set the correct SSID and Network password for your wireless network.

(* - Make sure your SSID does not include spaces or special characters like an apostrophe. WLED may have trouble connecting to these. We recommend you remove any spaces or special characters from your wireless SSID before trying to connect WLED)

Then, if you want a static IP address, populate the following fields with the appropriate IP address, Gateway, and Subnet Mask. Once this is set, you can easily browse to the Octa2Go via your computer's web browser. Just type in the new IP address in the URL bar.

  5. Installing the App
If you do not know how to set a static address, it is usually safe to allow your router to assign this automatically using DHCP.  WLED will default to DHCP if you do not enter any specific IP address information.

      1. So - how do you find the IP address that the Octa2Go was assigned? If your network is compatible with the mDNS protocol, you can use the mDNS address on the Wi-Fi setup screen.
(In the picture above, the address is http://wled-e12e14.local
        Yours will be different!)
Just type this address into a browser. Once you are logged back in, you can come back to the Wi-Fi setup page to see what IP you were assigned.

    Apple:

(Note! It appears that the official WLED app is no longer available for download on the Apple store. In it's place you can use the WLED-native app, but this app does not have the "Discover Lights" functionality described below)

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wled-native/id6446207239

      1. When you start the app, click the "+" button in the upper right corner to add a new controller and then press the "Discover Lights" button to search for your new Octa2Go.

    1. Assuming your network is set up correctly, the Octa2Go should be detected. Enter a custom name below to name your device and press the check mark in the upper right corner to complete the discovery.

You should then see a list of all of the WLED controllers on your network, along with their IP addresses.

Click on the controller name to connect to the controller:

  6.  Configuring your LEDs and their Color Order

By default, the Octa2Go is configured to output to 100 pixels on all 8 ports. When you connect your lights, they should light up with an orange color. This is completely normal.

Most bullet pixels are "RGB" pixels.  That is the default setting for the Duo2Go controller. If you find the colors not lining up properly you may have to change the "Color Order" setting.

Here's how you can find your correct color order:
    * Write the letters "RGB" on a piece of paper.
    * Then - set your lights to RED. What color appears? Write the first letter of this color (R,G or B) under the "R".
    * Next, set your lights to GREEN. Write the first letter of this color under the "G".
    * Finally, set your lights to BLUE. Write the first letter of this color under the "B".

The three letters will form the new color order that you need to choose to make your lights work properly.  In this example, the color order should be "BGR". You can save this new setting in "Config -> LED Preferences -> Hardware Setup -> LED outputs (1,2,3 & 4) -> Color Order.

    Finally, press SAVE.
